Objectives:
- To provide a comprehensive analysis of the impact of telemedicine on patient outcomes and access to care
- To explore implications of telemedicine for health care professionals like MD, RNs, Pharmacist, PT, SLT and others
- To discuss future strategies on how to harness the power of telemedicine to enhance patient care and improve health equity.
Meet the Speaker
Ariel P. Santos, MD, MPH, FRCSC, FACS, FCCM
Dr. Santos obtained his medical degree from the University of Santo Tomas in the Philippines in 1996 where he also graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. He completed his General Surgery residency at Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center in Manila as the Administrative Chief Resident. He then pursued his training in the US at the University of Louisville redoing his general surgery training as well as his fellowship in Trauma, Burn and Surgical Critical Care where he also earned his Master’s Degree in Public Health. He did further training at the University of Toronto. He was the Chief of Surgery at Labrador Grenfell Health System in Canada then the Associate EGS Director at Penn State prior to moving to Texas where he serve as the Division Chief of Acute Care Surgery at Covenant Medical Center/TTUHSC for 7 years. He is the founding Director of Telemedicine at TTUHSC School of Medicine and the Principal Investigator of Texas- Louisiana (TexLa) Telehealth Resource Center. Dr. Santos is the current Chair of the Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM) Surgery Section and also an active member of EAST, AAST, AAMC, NCTRC, Texas Surgical Society, SCCM and American College of Surgeons.
Dr. Santos is the Current Peter C. Canizaro Chair and Professor of the Department of Surgery at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Lubbock, Texas.
